Getting started/First 5 minutes

First 5 minutes

Searchemist is a search bar that moves your Mac when you type like you talk. Typos and casual phrasing are fine, and the model that reads your intent runs on your Mac.

Opening the bar

Press ⌥Space and the bar appears over your screen. Prefer Spotlight's shortcut? Turn on Settings ▸ General ▸ Open with ⌘Space during setup or later. Searchemist takes over the Spotlight shortcut, and you can give it back any time in System Settings ▸ Keyboard Shortcuts.

What's on my schedule today?
Calendar· Todayexample

Open Calendar

The first time you ask about your calendar, macOS asks for permission. Allow it once and later answers come straight back. Each feature's permission is listed under Permissions.

When you are stuck

Type what can you do? or help in the bar and the "What I can do" card appears inside the app. This recipe book is that card, unfolded.

How to read this book

Each recipe has three parts. The sentence in the search bar is what you say; the card below is what happens (card titles and buttons use the app's exact wording; the content inside is an example); the grey pills are other ways to say the same thing. Click a pill to swap it into the bar.
